The backyard staff at Great Comp close Sevenoaks are making plans for their Spring Fling plant honest in April, government limitations permitting.

The seven acre garden in Platt is a festival of spring color during April and May with its own set of over 80 magnolias in 52 distinct varieties, together with a vivid group of azaleas and rhododendrons in bloom, lots of planted for former proprietor Roderick Cameron.

Roderick, called ‘Eric’, has been a massive fan of spring flowering trees and adored the shrubs and trees of southeast Asia, particularly that the azalea. Eric built a temple at the wooded region of the backyard and the present curator, William Dyson planted the area with orange, crimson, white and pink azaleas more than 20 decades back and they are still going strong. There will also be yellow azaleas from the mountainous area that date back before this Cameron’s arrival from the 1950s.

William Dyson stated: “Spring is a fantastic time at Great Comp Garden, and we really hope to be able to host the annual Spring fling plant fair, but even if we can’t due to government guidelines, we will still be safely welcoming visitors into our fantastic spring garden.

“We adore sharing the magnolias at the time of year and people actually get a feeling of the backyard envisaged by Eric and Joy, his spouse. We owe Eric and Joy that a massive debt of gratitude for their love of azaleas and rhododendrons and it is good to have the ability to maintain the collection going for everyone to appreciate.”

And as things look likely to open up slowly this spring, the garden team are hoping to go ahead with their annual Spring Fling plant fair on Sunday, April 18 from 11am to 5pm (restrictions allowing) hosting specialist nurseries from the South of England, keen to showcase the wealth and colour of plants available at this time of the year.
